SCU Soil Release & Charging Cycle Overview

Sulphur Coated Urea (SCU), also introduced as Urea Gold in India, is a Slow Release (controlled release) Nitrogen Fertilizer.

The Sulphur Shell Slows Down the Breakdown of Urea, Releasing Nitrogen Gradually into the Soil Over a Period of 40 to 60 Days as Soil Microbes Break Down the Sulphur Layer and Water Penetrates the Granule.

Due to the Slow-Release Mechanism, the Application Cycle (Gaps Between Applications) for SCU Is Longer Than That of Standard Urea, and Fewer Split Applications Are Required.

StageWhat Happens in the SoilTimeline
Initial PhaseWater Enters Microscopic Pores in the Sulphur Shell. Initial Dissolution Begins.0 to 7 days
Peak ReleaseSoil Bacteria Oxidize Sulphur; Nitrogen Release Peaks to Match Early Active Vegetative Growth.15 to 45 days
Extended ReleaseRemaining Nitrogen Slowly Leaks Out, Supplying Nutrients Through Early Reproductive Stages.45 to 60 days
